Land Before Time

This is another one of Don Bluth's greatest. He teamed up with George Lucas (Star Wars, Indiana Jones) to make this film. Its a little bit like An American Tail only with Dinosaurs and not politically correct. Like in AT1 (An American Tail) there's lost families. Little foot a Brontosaurus, has lost his family, and is trying to find them in the Great Valley, a place where all of the Dinosaurs are migrating.

Bluth wanted this to be a big film, but according to an eyewitness named Troy Howell (He's on the special thanks list) he said that Bluth was ripped off in this film. He wanted it to be a big long film. Yet the studios took away over 35 minutes of the movie! This outraged Bluth, but the studios had to narrow it down because a child's attention span goes no further than an hour and 20 minutes. I agree with Bluth, that his film should have gone the whole nine yards. It's not just about the kids, about us fans too you know!

Anyway after Littlefoot lost his family from a continental divide, ("Only in the Jurassic Age!") he sets off to find the Great Valley where all of the dinosaurs were migrating. On his way he picks up a few friends who also lost their families. If they don't make it to the Great Valley soon, then they will starve to death!

I can't say more about this film other than it's good and worth seeing. Like An American Tail this too has made a majority of the audiences cry in the theater. I think it's because of the music. This is another must see film! It was so good that even the critics liked it!

Movie Checklist

Rated: G

Time: About 1:20

Year: 1988 shown in theaters.

Action: Earthquakes, Dino Battles, T-Rex attacks, Tar Pit of Terror, chases, canyon crossing, continental division, volcano eruptions, plus more!

Language: Just Sarah's smart mouth. I don't think bad language will be invented for another 65 million years!

LoveMaking: Just the last love between a mother and her child. I don't see any supermodels in the year 65 Million B.C.!!!

Music: They have music that is so heart warming that they've played it in re-habs. The LBT sequels have one too many musical numbers.

Awards: I think it was nominated in the Oscars but I don't know for sure.

Pros: This is the ultimate family movie besides AT1 (An American Tail) I urge people to see it. Cartoon Network shows it every now and then. But CN mainly shows the sequels which are not so good. Remember this film pleased even the critics, and they are hard to please.

Cons: I guess the only people that would disagree with a few things are the scientists. The dinosaurs in this film go by nicknames not their scientific name. Like T-Rex is called Sharptooth in this film. The only major con are the LBT sequels, they were lousy!
